Safari planning guide
Best Time to Visit Tanzania
Explore Tanzania’s safari seasons, rainfall patterns, migration movements, climbing windows and when different regions may suit your priorities.
Tanzania’s size means there is no single best month for every journey. Northern-circuit safaris, southern parks, Kilimanjaro and the coast have different planning considerations, and seasonal patterns vary from year to year.
Northern safari circuit
Drier periods can concentrate wildlife and simplify roads; greener periods bring fresh landscapes, calving interest in parts of the Serengeti and changing visitor levels.
Migration and location
The migration’s broad rhythm is useful for planning, but rainfall determines actual movement. Select the Serengeti sector with realistic expectations rather than a promised sighting.
Climbing and coast
Mountain conditions and coastal weather need their own check. A combined itinerary should be timed around the most important activity, with flexibility for changing conditions.
